functionality such as season rollover, administration of user
passwords & access and system purging.
Flexibility A key approach in
the design of the system has been the recognition that not all horse studs will
operate in exactly the same manner. As a result of this the system has been
built in a manner that allows it to be easily tailored to meet differing
requirements without re-programming. Fundamental to this approach is the use of
system and user defined procedures. System procedures cause specific actions to
occur but the user may adapt the parameters to meet their exact requirements.
User defined procedures allow the user to define actions that are specific to
the particular environment.
Information Integration All information
within the system is completely integrated. This means that information that is
entered in one area of the system is immediately reflected in other areas, ie.
There is no duplication of entry. Further, information relating to vets and the
stud is held in the one database and accessible from a single point, ie. The
horse, but from an accounting point of view is held separately so that funds can
be managed by individual ledgers, as per legal requirements.
Owner Service Focus
The system has been designed with the objective of the users being
able to provide a greater level of service to owners. For example, the
owner & horse enquiry allows summary information about all of an
owners horses to be quickly and easily obtained, owner name searches
allow searching by name as well as the first and second name of all
owner contacts and standard letters can be automatically generated for
correspondence to owners on key events such as service, foaling etc.
Security Recognising the
importance of the information held within the database, the system has been set
up with full password protection. Further, each user can be assigned access
rights. This allows the ability to view, add, modify or delete information to
individually allowed or restricted. In this way some users may be given “enquiry
only” access, while some users may be allowed to update certain areas and others
may be allowed access to all information. |
